There are three types of structural classifications; rigid or hard shell (made of plastic, wood, carbon fiber, or kevlar), folding boats, and inflatable boats. Rigid kayaks are the type most people think of when they hear the word kayak. Of the hard shell variety, the fiberglass will damage the easiest and also be the easiest to repair. Kevlar is more expensive, but much lighter (a plus). Wooden kayaks are beautiful and easy to repair. They come in do it yourself kits and require more routine maintenance. Kayaking in the SF Bay
I went kayaking in the bay on Saturday. There's a kayaking outfitter in the city on Pier 38 that rents by the hour single and double kayaks. It was my first time kayaking, ocean or river, but it turned out to be a bit eaiser than expected. We went from the outfitters down to SBC Park and McCovey Cove then double backed to the Bay Bridge. It was a lot of fun and I'm thinking of going again this weekend and most definitly want to give river kayaking a try, too.

High Adventure (Scouting)
From Monday to Wednesday I was involved in a scouting event known as High Adventure. I went to the Salmon River in Idaho and white water rafted it and also kayaked it. It was fun. I didn't even tip in the kayak going down tough rapids. I was sortof forced into going but overall i think i was glad i went but im not quite sure. I had never been kayaking down a river so that was an awesome experience but i think i almost died 143 times. I am alive however so for that i am thankful.

When trying to decide on a kayak, start with the basics. There are three types of structural classifications; rigid or hard shell (made of plastic, wood, carbon fiber, or kevlar), folding boats, and inflatable boats. Rigid kayaks are the type most people think of when they hear the word kayak. Of the hard shell variety, the fiberglass will damage the easiest and also be the easiest to repair. I went kayaking in the bay on Saturday. There's a kayaking outfitter in the city on Pier 38 that rents by the hour single and double kayaks. It was my first time kayaking, ocean or river, but it turned out to be a bit eaiser than expected. We went from the outfitters down to SBC Park and McCovey Cove then double backed to the Bay Bridge. It was a lot of fun and I'm thinking of going again this weekend and most definitly want to give river kayaking a try, too.
